I must report that I have nothing much to write on this week, except that I am off to Duluth on Wednesday to attend the Northern Great Plains History Conference. I will be presenting my paper “The Impact of Camps of Instruction on Illinois Solders and Communities” as part of a panel with two of my fellow graduate students. I know that John and Travis will do well and that their topics are quite interesting having spoke with them about it. Here is the information on the panel:
2. NEW DIRECTIONS IN CIVIL WAR SCHOLARSHIP
Chair: Eric Burin, University of North Dakota
Presenters:
“George Fitzhugh: Anti-Exceptionalism and the Slavery Argument” by Travis Cormier, University of North Dakota
“The Impact of Camps of Instruction on Illinois Solders and Communities” By Daniel Sauerwein, University of North Dakota
“William Seward: Slavery and the American Republic” By John
Wickre, University of North Dakota
Comment: Eric Burin, University of North Dakota
The panel will be on Thursday October 4, 2007 from 9:00am – 10:30 am in the Lake Michigan Room of the Holiday Inn and Suites, Downtown Waterfront, Duluth, Minnesota. If you are at the conference, I encourage you to attend our panel and the many other wonderful panels, including another Civil War one on Sat. Oct. 6. I may post the presented paper next week and how the conference went, so until next time, keep researching.
